Sorry, this is late, I was called into Grandma duty yesterday. We are seeing many species that we would expect to see this time of year. We had some cool sightings in the mix; dowitchers in Seneca Flats, Wilson’s snipe in Benning Marsh and on Monday morning there was an adult sandhill crane on the Wildlife Drive by Eaton Marsh, while there were two other adults in Eaton Marsh!!
Remember that this Saturday, September 21 is the Friends’ Native Plant Festival and Sale at the Refuge Visitors’ Center. Master Naturalist, Pete Saracino is leading a guided walk at 8 am. If you haven’t experienced one of his walks, I highly recommend it!! Afterwards, you can attend the presentations, check out the vendors and food trucks!! Meteorologists are predicting a lovely, rain-free day. So, “come for the flowers, stay for the fun!”
Hopefully, you can get out soon to explore and experience all the amazing things at the Montezuma Wetlands Complex trails, towers and the Refuge Wildlife Drive. Remember, the Refuge Wildlife Drive is currently open to vehicles only. Dogs on a leash are only allowed in and around the Visitors’ Center and on the parts of the Seneca Trail that are open.
