Cooler temperatures, shorter days, colorful leaves and increasing numbers of waterfowl are giving us a peek at Autumn. I finally saw a glossy ibis at May’s Point yesterday!! Woohoo!! I’m convinced it is an adolescent that doesn’t get moving early.  Last Friday and Monday, I was over there between 8:30 and 9:00 am and didn’t see it.  But yesterday, we were there after 10:30 and voila, there it was!! (My apologies to any adolescents who do get moving early.)

In a few days waterfowl hunting will open in New York State.  No matter what your feelings are about hunting, please remember that in 1937 the land for Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge was purchased using duck stamp monies. In order to hunt waterfowl, hunters in New York State have to purchase a federal migratory bird hunting stamp (duck stamp).

Hopefully, you can get out soon to explore and experience all the amazing things at the Montezuma Wetlands Complex trails, towers and the Refuge Wildlife Drive.
