Many of you know that the section of the Seneca Trail has been reopened from the restrooms, past the metal tower to the wooden Centennial Deck. YAY!! Access is from the VC parking lot only. And, the other end is still open with access from the parking lot near the office. The Wildlife Drive near the north end of Larue’s has been a “hot spot” for least bitterns. Seneca Flats has been a “hot spot” for a tricolored heron for several days. May’s Point Observation Deck has been a “hot spot” for many of our regular summer birds! A caution about parking for May’s Point Obs Deck: park across the street in the fishing access area.  If you park on the right side of South May’s Point Road, where there appears to be a pull off, passengers in the car will be getting out and walking in POISON IVY!!  Noboby wants poison ivy oil on their toes or shoes!!

I am going to include the updated flyer for the FOTWMC Grow Native, Native Plant Festival. You will see the GREAT line up of speakers and vendors. Save the date, Saturday, September 21, 2024. Check it out, hope to see you there.

Hopefully, you can get out soon to explore the REALLY COOL and BEAUTIFUL things at the Montezuma Wetlands Complex trails, towers and the Refuge Wildlife Drive.  Currently, the Wildlife Drive is only open for vehicles. Dogs on a leash are only allowed in and around the Visitors’ Center and on the parts of the Seneca Trail that are open.
