With so many units frozen last Tuesday, I didn’t know then if we would be surveying yesterday. But we had a warming trend mid-week and were able to do it. Tschache Pool had relatively low waterfowl numbers but Knox-Marsellus had a respectable number of waterfowl. We received an email that there was a very large flock of sandhill cranes viewable from Olmstead Road. To get to Olmstead Road, take Route 89 north and turn left onto Armitage Road at the intersection where Route 89 goes east towards Route 31. Olmstead is the first road on the right. The flock was a little way down the road on the west side of the road. So, after we completed our survey, we headed over to check it out. They were still there!! A while later someone reported that they had left and another person reported them at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. They have been reported this morning at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. Going forward, if we have birds to count, Linda Z. will let me know and I will be able to keep you updated. If Mother Nature and Linda decide we are finished for the calendar year, I now, will wish you all a wonderful and safe holiday season!!
