5th ANNUAL WILDFLOWERS AND WINE FESTIVAL

Enjoy an afternoon of FAMILY FUN at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge and the Montezuma Winery at the 5th Annual Wildflowers and Wine Festival presented by the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex and the Montezuma Winery.

At the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge:

  • 12:30 - 2:30 - Guided bus tour of the Refuge with a stop at the Winery (First come, first served. Meet the bus in front of the Visitor Center.)
  • 1:30 in the Visitor Center - Janet Allen of Habitat Gardens of CNY talks about Monarch butterfly lifecycle and conservation.
  • 2:45 in the Visitor Center - Zoo to You! presents "Endangered Species" with live animals from Syracuse's Rosamond Gifford Zoo.
  • 3:00 - 5:00 - Guided bus tour of the Refuge with a stop at the Winery (First come, first served. Meet the bus in front of the Visitor Center.)
  • 4:00 in the Visitor Center - Dr. Ernest Williams from Hamilton College speaks on Monarch migration.
  • All Day - Wildflowers of Montezuma in Art Form art show.
    Kids' activities and local conservation/wildlife displays.
    Dragonfly Roundup with DEC.

All day at the Montezuma Winery:

  • Release of our limited edition "Monarch" wine. Come taste "Monarch" and more!
  • Wine tastings and wine slushies.
  • Moe's BBQ Pit will be there with their BBQ fare and all the fixins!
  • Enjoy Wine Ice Cream by Cayuga Creamery.
  • Paint with wine during a Painting with Wine Workshop.
  • Chainsaw carving demonstration.
  • Family portraits by Tellier Studios.
  • 12:30 - 4:30 - Music by Alice Detrick & Friends!

A portion of the sales of the Monarch wine will be donated to the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex to continue wildflower/grassland restoration projects and educational programs.

As a special addition for our 5th year, we will host an art show sponsored by the Ludovico Sculpture Trail of Seneca Falls, NY. Local artists will display their work at the Wildflowers of Montezuma in Art Form show, opening on June 15 at the Wildflowers and Wine Festival, and remaining at the refuge through July 24. From there it will be moved to the Seneca Museum of Waterways and Industries in Seneca Falls, NY, and show through September. Proceeds from the artists' entry fee will benefit the Ludovico Sculpture Trail and the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex.
