2008 AMATEUR PHOTO CONTEST

Grab your camera and take a picture that captures the essence of the Complex. All age and amateur ability levels welcome! Check out the rules below, then tear off the entry form and send us your best:

Photo must have been taken between 1 October 2007 and 31 August 2008 within the boundaries of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. That includes the North end of Cayuga Lake, the Refuge, DEC lands in the area and any other public location in the townships of Tyre and Savannah. That means you can take a photo from a public road, the canal, public lands or any other place open to the general public.

Entry fee is $3.00 for each photo submitted (proceeds to benefit Friends activities). There is no limit as to how many photos an individual may submit. Submissions become the property of the Friends group to be used as specified below. Each photo must be labeled with your name, location of the photo and the category you are submitting it to. Make checks payable to: Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex.

Contest is open to amateurs only. USFWS, DEC and Montezuma Audubon Center employees and Friends board members also are excluded.

Submissions must be black and white or color prints, 5x7 or smaller. Digital images are allowed in any category. Digital images may have minimal manipulation such as cropping and exposure, but NOT cutting and pasting or other advanced techniques that create end products that do not reflect the scene as it appeared in reality.

Do not submit original slides or negatives or electronic files. Only winning entries will be asked to provide original slides or negatives or an electronic file for duplication purposes. Prints will only be returned if entrant provides a self-addressed stamped envelope.

All photos submitted should have a nature theme. Submissions must be in one of the following categories:
A. Bird
B. Other wildlife (mammals, insects, fish, etc.)
C. Scenic and/or plants
D. People enjoying nature

Deadline for submissions is 31 August 2008.

PRIZES:
All winning entrants in each category will receive a gift certificate to The Lodge, the Friends’ gift shop at the Montezuma Refuge Visitors Center. Prints of winning photos will be displayed at the USFWS Montezuma Visitor Center and the Montezuma Audubon Center. In addition, top entries will be turned into a calendar; photographers whose photos are selected for the calendar will receive a complimentary calendar
